Colonel Mark J. Poland has served with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s office for over 23 years within the Operations Bureau. He started his career with the Winchester City Police Department as a patrol officer before transferring to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. He is a dedicated and professional commander currently assigned as the Undersheriff. Previous assignments included Patrol Deputy, Major Crimes Detective, Sergeant within Patrol and the Narcotics Unit respectively, 2nd Lieutenant in Patrol and Internal Affairs, Assistant Division Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division and Division Commander of Field Operations and Lieutenant Colonel. He received his Master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Security and Defense and graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude, from The George Washington University with a Bachelor’s degree in Police Science. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy, Session 260. He is a lifelong resident of Loudoun County where he lives with his wife and two children.
