Two High School Students Charged with Distribution of Alprazolam (Xanax) on School Property
Loudoun County, VA- Two 16-year-old students from Potomac Falls High School were charged Friday with distribution of a schedule IV narcotic on school property. The charges stem from an incident last month where several students were discovered to have shared drinks containing Alprazolam, commonly referred to as Xanax, during class at a nearby middle school.

On April 21, School Resource Officers (SRO’s) with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office were made aware that several eighth graders at Riverbend Middle School had consumed the liquid by sharing drinks containing the prescription drug. The seven students were seen by a school nurse but no students needed to be immediately transported to a hospital. All of the students were sent home with a parent.

During the course of the investigation on April 21, SRO’s identified two students at Potomac Falls High School who were found in possession of the suspected Alprazolam mixture.

The investigation, which included consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney and Loudoun County Juvenile Court Services, resulted in juvenile petitions for the two high school students for Felony Distribution of a Schedule IV Narcotic on School Property.

The names of the two students cannot be released due to the fact they are both juveniles.

None of the middle school students were charged in the case.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone wishing to report any suspected narcotics activity to call the narcotics tip line at 703-779-0552.
