At approximately 6:51 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) units were dispatched to the area of Southbound Sully Road and Sterling Boulevard for a vehicle accident with rollover. Units arrived on scene to find a tractor trailer carrying food products engulfed in flames. Fire crews identified two patients with burn injuries who were immediately assessed by on scene personnel. Firefighters quickly deployed attack lines to extinguish the fire and assess the scene for additional hazards.
The incident scene was complex, requiring firefighters to extinguish the fire while simultaneously caring for seriously injured patients, all while our law enforcement partners managed traffic on the busy roadway. The LCFR Hazardous Materials Team was dispatched to mitigate any leaking fuel. A total of four patients were evaluated and transported to local hospitals. No firefighter injuries were reported.
