LCSO Command Staff Meet with Sikh Community, Discuss Outreach & Cultural Diversity

Loudoun County, VA- Members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office command staff met with members of the Sikh Community at the Raj Khalsa Gurdwara in Sterling, Va., to discuss the agency’s efforts to combat crime and the proactive efforts being taken in community policing and cultural diversity.

As part of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office outreach efforts, a town hall style question and answer session was held with interested members of the Sikh community. Among the topics discussed was overall security, bullying in schools, and ways to increase the understanding of the Sikh faith within law enforcement and the larger community.

“The strength of Loudoun County is our diversity,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “With this in mind, we are working to enhance our outreach capabilities to foster a mutual understanding with all of our communities,” added Sheriff Chapman.

Prior to the question and answer session on February 21, Loudoun Sheriff’s command staff attended worship services at the temple and enjoyed a Kirtan performance, the Sikh dining tradition of Langar, and viewed a video on the Sikh faith. Members of the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office and the Sikh community also encouraged the young adults in attendance to consider a career in law enforcement.

“The message of Sheriff Chapman and his staff of dedicated public servants to build bridges between law enforcement and minority communities within Loudoun County is a beautiful mission,” said Guruganesha Singh Khalsa, Raj Khalsa Gurdwara Council Member.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will continue to meet with organizations and groups as part of their outreach efforts.
