Press release website

Loudoun County, VA (May 5, 2021)- A recent survey of Loudoun County residents continues to show high satisfaction among the services provided by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).

Loudoun County continues to have the lowest crime rate in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area and the LCSO is recognized as a model law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The LCSO’s reputation for excellence was further supported by a recent community survey conducted by the National Research Center. The 2021 community survey found 87% of residents viewed the police/sheriff services in Loudoun County as excellent or good, with 89% of residents reporting the overall feeling of safety in Loudoun County was excellent or good.

Additionally, 85% of residents who were surveyed found that crime prevention in the county was excellent or good.  Ninety-seven percent of residents also responded they felt very or somewhat safe in their neighborhood during the day, 95% said they felt very or somewhat safe in the county’s downtown/commercial areas during the day, 85% said they felt very or somewhat safe from property crime, with 90% reporting they felt very or somewhat safe from violent crime

“I have taken great efforts to ensure our personnel are working to build trust and partnerships with all members of our community. I am proud of the hard work and dedication of our staff to ensure professional and efficient service to our residents, and this is reflected in the high satisfaction rate among our citizens in recent community surveys,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “The trust, mutual respect, and the community partnerships developed are likely why Loudoun has remained one of the safest counties in the region,” added Sheriff Chapman.

Loudoun County contracted with the National Research Center, Inc., to participate in The National Community Survey, which was developed with the assistance of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). The scientific survey allows Loudoun to make comparisons with peer counties and has been used in more than 700 jurisdictions across 46 states.

The benchmark comparisons showed Loudoun County Sheriff and Crime Prevention services as well as overall safety ranked similar or higher to our peer communities.

The results of the report were presented at the May 4, 2021, business meeting of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.  You can find the full survey here:
