Loudoun County, VA (November 12, 2020)- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office graduated three members of the agency’s leadership staff from the 46th and 47th sessions of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS).

1st Lieutenant John Buckman, a 26-year veteran of the agency, 1st Lieutenant Joshua Heddings, a 19-year veteran, and 1st Lieutenant Calvin Moore, a 15-year veteran of the agency, graduated Thursday from the intensive three-week leadership education program.

“The PELS Program ensures our leadership staff will continue to receive training at the highest levels. Participating in this program increases the professionalism of all of our leadership staff and enables the agency to network with other large law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.

1st Lt. Buckman serves as the Assistant Station Commander of the Western Loudoun Station. 1st Lt. Heddings and 1st Lt. Moore serve as Staff Duty Officers at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center in the Corrections Division.

The PELS program is conducted in cooperation with the University of Richmond. This program is designed for individuals who currently serve in command/executive-level positions within their agencies. The curriculum is liberal-arts/humanities-based and focused on the study of leadership at an advanced level. The objective of this program is to acquaint participants with best practices in leadership, challenge them to reflect upon their own leadership competency, and examine ways of achieving both personal and professional growth.

The classes are held on the campus of the University of Richmond, and faculty members from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, teach the classes. They are drawn from the Robins School of Business, the Management Institute, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, and several other schools within the university.
