Public Safety Agencies to Offer Virtual McGruff Safety Camp
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA (July 10, 2020) - The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System are pleased to announce the “virtual” 32nd annual McGruff Safety Camp from July 27 – 31, 2020. McGruff is a fun and educational safety camp geared towards children entering kindergarten and first grade. This year we have created a way for our campers to attend the McGruff Safety Camp from the safety of their own home!
Monday through Thursday campers will be provided a number of short and educational video lessons with corresponding activities to complete. Each lesson ranges from five to ten minutes, for a total of roughly an hour each day. Some of the safety lessons included are ‘Crossing the Street’, ‘Fire Safety’, ‘Using 9-1-1’, and ‘Bicycle Safety’, just to name a few. Links to these videos and activities will be delivered to the registered camp participant’s parent or guardian every morning and can be completed at your convenience.
McGruff Safety Camps began back in the summer of 1988 and have continued every summer though a joint effort between the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Each morning, the parent/guardian will receive an email from [email protected] with a list of lessons and activities for the day. The list will include links to videos and activities that you can complete with your camper at your convenience.
On Friday, July 31, 2020, there will be special drive-through graduation in the Leesburg area for the campers between 10 am – 1 pm (location to be announced). The graduation provides an opportunity to pick up your child’s graduation certificate, see sheriff and fire and rescue vehicles, and say hi our amazing friends “McGruff the Crime Dog” and “Sparky the Fire Dog”.
To register your child / children please visit McGruff Safety Camp. For more information please email [email protected] or call Sergeant Matt Bressler at 703-771-5749.
