Loudoun County officials are celebrating the start of construction of the Ashburn Road Sidewalk project, which will improve pedestrian access and safety with the construction of 1,100 feet of sidewalk on the east side of Ashburn Road between Partlow Road and the W&OD Trail.
Members of the Board of Supervisors took part in a ceremonial groundbreaking Friday for the project, which includes the construction of a sidewalk, curb and gutter, improved drainage and signage. Curb ramps and crosswalks installed along this segment of Ashburn Road will comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, providing an accessible route that people with disabilities can use to safely transition from the road to the curbed sidewalk and vice versa.
The cost of the project is $1.238 million. It is expected to be completed by the summer of 2020.
