LOUDOUN TEAM NAMED GEORGETOWN CENTER FOR JUVENILE JUSTICE REFORM FELLOWS
LEESBURG, Virginia – May 20, 2019. Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Alex Rueda as well as her team members, the Honorable Judge Pamela Brooks of Loudoun County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Margaret Graham, Director of Loudoun County Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services, Jennifer Wall, Director of Student Services for Loudoun County Public Schools, Ira Holland, Interim Director of the Loudoun County Juvenile Court Services Unit, Valmarie Turner, Assistant Loudoun County Administrator, Michelle Smith, Superintendent of the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center and Captain Craig Schleiden of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office have recently been selected as new members of the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform (CJJR) Fellows Network based on the approval of their Capstone Project.
“The Loudoun County team’s project seeks to increase diversion rates for minority youth in Loudoun County and create a collaborative engagement process to help support youth and families,” said Shay Bilchik, Director of CJJR. “Their effort has the potential to both improve public safety and reduce racial and ethnic disparity within the juvenile justice system,” continued Bilchik.
Part of Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, CJJR advances a balanced, multi-systems approach to reducing juvenile delinquency, fostering positive youth development, and holding youth accountable. The Center works nationwide to promote an evidence-based juvenile justice reform agenda, highlighting the research on policies and practices that work best to achieve better outcomes for children.
Members of the Loudoun County Team attended the Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities Certificate Program in November 2018, and were admitted to the CJJR Fellows Network in May 2019.
