Basement Fire on Gunflint Way in Sterling
Sterling, VA. – The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause of last night’s house fire on Gunflint Way in Sterling.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. October 11th, the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a house fire in a residence located on Gunflint Way. The caller reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the basement of the home. Fire and Rescue units from Sterling Park, Cascades, Kincora, Ashburn, Fairfax County, along with several members of command staff were dispatched on the incident.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find active fire in the basement of a two story, single family dwelling. Additional resources were requested bringing units from Lansdowne, Fairfax County and Sterling. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire from the exterior, while crews entered the home to search for additional occupants. Initial reports stating there may be an additional resident inside the home proved to be inaccurate and subsequent searches for an additional person were negative.
The bulk of the fire was extinguished with the initial attack and firefighters performed salvage and overhaul operations to ensure there was no additional fire spread.
The three occupants of the structure have been displaced due to the damage, but were not in need of assistance from the Red Cross. The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating this incident.
