Loudoun County, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables while running errands or dropping off children. In the past two weeks, three vehicles were entered and items were stolen at schools/daycare facilities in the Ashburn area.

The suspects are targeting purses left inside vehicles parked at daycare centers and schools. In some of the cases the suspects quickly entered the victim’s vehicle while they picked-up their children inside.

Detectives with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video of one suspect and a suspect vehicle from the September 20 thefts at a preschool on Research Place in Ashburn (See Video Here). The thefts occurred between 5:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. when two vehicles were entered and purses were stolen.  The suspect, a Black male wearing a white tank top and black shorts, is seen in the video exiting a rear passenger door of a black Audi crossover SUV. The SUV has dark tinted windows and a thick roof rack on top.

A similar theft was reported last week at a middle school on Gloucester Parkway on September 11.

In both cases the suspect(s) damaged windows to make entry into the vehicles. In an effort to deter these thefts, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to:

  • Ensure that your vehicle is locked and secured, even when running errands and dropping off children at day care centers or schools.
  • Never leave your car unlocked when unattended, even if it is for a short time, and remove any valuables.
  • Please remember to keep checks and identity documents securely with you or at home.  Do not leave them in a vehicle where someone has a moment or chance to take them.
  • If you have checks, money, credit cards, or identification taken from an unlocked vehicle, contact the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office and your bank immediately.
Anyone with any information regarding the possible identity of the suspect or the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle is asked to contact Detective M. Wealand at 571-209-7730. You may also submit a tip through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office app. The Loudoun Sheriff app is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 703-777-1021.
