Mental Health Treatment to Help Prevent Suicide

Access to mental health services is a critical component of a comprehensive approach to preventing suicide. Loudoun County has many resources available.

Services / Resources

In addition to the outpatient services and prevention and intervention services provided by Loudoun County’s Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services, there are many other mental health resources for young people in Loudoun.

Suicide Prevention Alliance of Northern Virginia (SPAN)

Other services include, but are not limited to:

  • SPAN (Suicide Prevention Alliance of Northern Virginia): Loudoun is a member of the regional alliance. The SPAN website provides links to resources from each member jurisdiction to provide a single point of entry for anyone who may be struggling with mental health issues or contemplating suicide.
  • Mental Health First Aid: This public education program is offered by the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services to help communities understand mental illnesses, seek timely intervention, and save lives. A youth version of the program is offered.
  • LINC (Linking Individuals & Navigating Care): LINC’s goal is to help young people and their families understand and manage symptoms of mental illness, while also building skills and supports that allow them to be successful in work, school, and life in general.
  • Crisis Intervention Team Assessment Center: The Loudoun County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Assessment Center at:

    This center provides individuals experiencing a mental health emergency the opportunity to meet with a mental health professional for evaluation, crisis intervention and stabilization services. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily with mental health professionals available for anyone in crisis. Non-emergency appointments can be made at 703-771-5155.
  • Loudoun County Public Schools Suicide Prevention: The Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) are a key partner in promoting mental health and wellness for youth. The LCPS website lists information and resources as part of its Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention Program.

There also are resources available 24 hours, 7 days a week for youth experiencing depression, suicidal thoughts or other behavioral crises. Through Loudoun County Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services, help is available at 703-777-0320 for anyone experiencing an immediate and severe emotional crisis. Other free, confidential 24/7 resources include:
