The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department is looking for community assistance during our Adopt-A-Hydrant program.
In the event of a fire, it is vital that fire and rescue crews are able to quickly gain access to the water supply to extinguish the fire and prevent the loss of life and/or property. This program encourages residents and/or businesses to adopt a fire hydrant close to their home or business and maintain the area around thehydrant.
The Department is encouraging Loudoun County residents to adopt a hydrant and pledge to keep their adopted hydrant free of debris. This means shoveling the area around their adopted fire hydrant after each snowfall by clearing a three-foot path around the hydrant as well as clearing a path from the street/roadway up to the hydrant. This will ensure the hydrant is visible and accessible to fire and rescue crews in an emergency. During the summer months, residents should keep the hydrant free of weeds and shrubbery.
To adopt a hydrant, click here and complete the online form. Upon registering, you will receive an "Adoption Certificate" and a list of guidelines to assist you.
