About Supervisor Letourneau
Supervisor Matt Letourneau was elected to represent the Dulles District on the Board of Supervisors in November 2011 and re-elected in 2015, receiving over 70 percent of the vote - the largest margin of victory of any elected official in Loudoun County with a contested race. He was also reelected in November 2019.
Supervisor Letourneau led the effort to expand and restructure Loudoun County Economic Development and implement a new international business development strategy, which resulted in a major increase in commercial business development. He also has been a strong advocate for transportation projects, such as the widening of Route 606, the expansion of Loudoun County Parkway, and the Metro Silver Line extension to Loudoun. He also has fought for more services in Dulles South, and obtained funding to open the Gum Spring Library and construct the Dulles South Recreation and Senior Center additions.
Supervisor Letourneau serves as Chairman of the Board’s Finance, Government Operations and Economic Development Committee, which oversees county services, finances, and economic development efforts.
Supervisor Letourneau represents Loudoun on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC), which oversees public transit. He served as NVTC Chairman in 2019 and is currently serving as the immediate past chairman. He was the first Loudoun County Supervisor to serve as an officer of NVTC. He previously served as Vice Chairman in 2018 and as Secretary-Treasurer in 2017. He is also the first Loudoun County Supervisor to serve on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) Board of Directors, representing Virginia as a Principal Director.
Supervisor Letourneau has represented Loudoun on the Route 28 Transportation Improvement District Commission since 2012. In 2018, he served as the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors Chairman, the first from Loudoun since 1983. The board governs the independent, nonprofit association that brings area leaders from 24 jurisdictions in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia together to address major regional issues. He served as COG Corporate President in 2014 and was elected vice president of the COG Board of Directors in 2016. He also serves on the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board.
In his professional capacity, he serves as Managing Director of Communications and Media for the Global Energy Institute at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Supervisor Letourneau is originally from central Massachusetts, which explains his love for Boston’s sports teams. He was a cum laude graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., where he met his wife Margaret. They have four children – Patrick, Emily, Brendan, and Caitlin, reside in Little River Commons in Chantilly, and attend Corpus Christi Catholic Parish in Stone Ridge.
