The Commissioner of Accounts is a court-appointed attorney who has the legal responsibility to oversee your actions as a Personal Representative to ensure that you preserve the Estate assets and perform your duties as required by law.
This means that you must file an Inventory and First and/or subsequent Accountings with the Commissioner, for review and approval.
Upon approval, these Inventory and Accounting documents are filed with the Probate Clerk.
The Probate Clerk will record these documents and they become public records.
The Commissioner of Accounts holds monthly public outreach meetings in order for fiduciaries to ask questions or seek guidance regarding fiduciary responsibilities and estate administration in general.
Each meeting includes a brief presentation and an opportunity for questions.
If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Lombardi at the Commissioner of Accounts office at 703-777-5300.
