K-9 Operations
About the Unit
Bailey and DinoThe Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has nine K9 teams. These canines are trained in specific areas and assigned to various divisions within the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. 


The Operational Support Division has five K9 teams that are trained for criminal apprehension and narcotics detection. Their primary responsibilities are to respond to crimes in progress or ones that have just occurred. They respond to building and area searches, tracking, barricades, and warrant services. The K9 teams assist with missing and lost persons, conduct public demonstrations, school searches, and narcotics detection. The section is comprised of a Sergeant and four deputies.

The Sheriff's Office has two Explosive Detection Canines, one is assigned to the Operational Support Division and the other is assigned to the Patrol Division. Each canine is trained to detect materials used for manufacturing explosives. 

The Criminal Investigations Division has a Narcotics Detection Canine assigned to the Tactical Enforcement Unit. The canine is used to assist Narcotics Detectives during investigations and search warrants. 

The Adult Detention Center (ADC) also has a Narcotics Detection Canine. This canine conducts proactive narcotics sweeps through the ADC, its parking lot areas, as well as the Loudoun County Courts Complex.
